Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia is a unique university, a major internationally oriented educational and scientific center, widely known in the world for its achievements in the organization of the educational process, scientific research, international relations.
Within the walls of the Russian University of Friendship of Peoples, citizens from 145 to 152 countries of the world study and train on postgraduate forms of education every year.
About 27,000 students, graduate students, residents and trainees from 152 countries of the world study in PFUR. At the University there is a team of more than 4500 employees, including about 2300 teachers, including more than 500 professors and doctors of sciences, over 1200 associate professors and candidates of sciences.
For its 55-year history, the PFUR has gained worldwide fame and won a well-deserved reputation as a classical university that for many years occupies the highest places among the best Russian universities and is rapidly rising in international rankings.
In the world ranking of QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) universities, in 2013, 2014 and 2015, the PFUR is included in the TOP-500 of the best universities in the world (from Russia only 10 universities are in TOP-500).
According to the rating agency “Interfax” PFUR in 2011-2015 annually takes 4-6 places among all (more than 1000) Russian universities.
Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia is included in TOP-100 universities of the BRICS countries according to Interfax News Agency in a joint project with the rating company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). In the ranking of universities of Russia, CIS and Baltic countries compiled by them, the PFUR ranked 7th in 2013, and according to the indicator of “internationalization” the PFUR ranked first among all universities in Russia, CIS and Baltic countries.
It should be noted that the University occupies high places in international and Russian scientific ratings due to the active scientific work of PFUR scientists. According to the Russian Scientific Citation Index (RINC), according to the number of scientific articles, the PFUR ranks 6th among all scientific and educational organizations of Russia (more than 10,500 of them), 4th among all higher educational institutions of the Russian Federation (more than 1,000), the third Place – among universities in Moscow, and according to the citation index – 17th place in Russia and 5th place – in Moscow.
PFUR takes an active part in the implementation of research and development work on priority scientific areas in close cooperation with many research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and other leading scientific organizations in Russia and abroad. Annually more than 30 dissertational councils of PFUR pass hundreds of defenses of candidate and doctoral dissertations.
Not only fundamental sciences are developing in the PFUR, but also such topical applied research as telecommunication systems, mathematical prediction, pharmacology, nanobiomedtechnologies, geoinformatics, tropical agriculture, space exploration (PFUR is licensed by Roskosmos for conducting space activities) and many others. Traditionally, the PFUR scientific schools are strong in the fields of mathematics, chemistry, medicine, international relations, nature management, linguistics, Russian as a foreign language and many others.
According to the Tomson & Reuter agency (May 2014), according to the number of national patents for inventions for 2002-2012, PFUR ranks second among all organizations of the Russian Federation (the first place is by Rosatom, and the third place by the Ministry of Industry of Russia).
The combination of faculties and directions of preparation from humanitarian, socio-economic to natural sciences, engineering, medical, agrarian and other, which is characteristic of the leading centers of the world higher school, makes it possible to obtain fundamental higher education in the Peoples’ Friendship University with knowledge of promising directions for the development of politics, economy, Cultural sphere, as well as modern achievements in the field of medicine, physics, chemistry, engineering and technology.

By the Decree of the President of Russia on March 12, 2012, the University was granted the right to independently develop and implement its own higher education educational programs, which are higher than the State standards, which allows significantly raising the level of education and giving not only fundamental knowledge, but also modern professional skills.
The quality of education received in PFUR is confirmed by the success of more than 90,000 of our graduates who work in almost all countries of the world. Among them – a number of presidents and prime ministers, dozens of ministers, hundreds of well-known politicians and successful businessmen.
The University has extensive international connections both with individual foreign universities and with international organizations. PFUR is a member of the International Association of Universities, the Eurasian Association of Universities, the European Association of Universities, the European Association for International Education. The PFUR takes an active part in the programs and projects of the Council of Europe, UNESCO, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, has more than 250 agreements on cooperation with foreign universities and research centers. The PFUR is the basic university of the CIS Networking University (26 universities from 9 countries) and the Network University of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) (75 universities from 5 SCO countries). In 2010, PFUR was awarded the UNESCO Gold Medal for its contribution to the training of personnel for the developing countries of the world.
Many foreign and Russian political and public figures, outstanding scientists have become Honorary doctors of the Russian University of Peoples’ Friendship.
